movie time (5)

It’s Friday and that means it’s time for a great movie suggestion!

There have been a plethora of rom coms coming out recently that have surprised me in their cleverly-crafted twists on old story lines.

Fantastically fresh and honest, The Five-Year Engagement is the story of a lovely couple that has all the best intentions in life.  They get engaged (obviously) but then life keeps getting in the way of anything else.  They watch others around them get married and they work through it with humor and wit.

This movie hits so close to the 20-something theme of this page that it was an instant hit in my house (as it is filled with 20-somethings).  The couple faces relationship crises, job and career complications, and live with just an overall sense of a malfunctioning life.  This is something I’m sure we’ve all felt before.  So go laugh about it.

It is pretty vulgar, but it’s all in good taste.

This one was a B+ in my book, but What to Expect When You’re Expecting was another surprise for me.  While it was sub-par in overall effect it was also very honest and addressed a lot of real-world issues that happen to actual real people.  It intricately weaves together the lives of several couples and singles in a way that is interesting and somewhat reminiscent of Valentine’s Day in that sense.  There was a lot of honesty-based humor, which is always refreshing and amusing for me.

It will probably be a while before I watch this one again, but I will eventually, and that’s what matters.

By the way, don’t watch the trailer for this one—it gives away too many funny parts.
